WOW! Where do we begin? From start to finish it was absolutely amazing! The staff were unbelievable! Super friendly, attentive, helpful and nothing was an issue! Isabelle checked us in, she explained everything clearly and was super polite and showed us everything we needed to know about the hotel/grounds and our room as well as breakfast etc. She got us some refreshments before taking us to our car to collect our bags and drove us to the room! She came in, brought our things in and gave us a room tour! Showed us how things worked and explained everything clearly! She was so bubbly and friendly! The room was unreal! 5* treatment! Super clean, modern, homely and nice and toasty! They even gave our daughter a little tawny owl! It was such a lovely touch! She loved it! We had room service delivered! It was speedy, Hot and fresh! We also had a welcome card & complimentary bottle of fizz which was super kind and went down a treat! The grounds are beautiful! So
Much to do but also you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the gorgeous views! It’s so peaceful and private! The breakfast was perfect! Super fast. Hot and lots to choose from! Again the staff were so attentive and were always smiling and happy to help in anyway! Jasmine was also lovely, she checked us out! Everyone made the effort with our daughter and it didn’t go unnoticed! Amazing hotel and staff! 10/10 would recommend! You must stay here!! We will be returning again soon! Thanks to all at the tawny hotel! Especially Isabelle, jasmine & steve! Xxxx

I stayed at The Tawny for a little birthday treat. The service was faultless from start to finish. Shoutout to Darren, whose personal touch made all the difference. It was clear he genuinely cared about making our stay as special as possible.
The grounds were absolutely beautiful to wake up to and explore. The food was delicious, the outdoor pool was an absolute treat and I had the most relaxing massage by Siobhan.
The most perfect place for a peaceful and memorable stay ✨

Had an afternoon tea, quality was poor. Tea arrived late and we were given the wrong tea. Marco polo jam was awful and one cake was tasteless and one cake was very dry.
Location is lovely but food was very expensive for fairly poor quality. Service was poor and we were made to feel it was our fault they got the teas wrong.

I have been meaning to review this for years - we went in 2022 for my birthday for a 2 night stay. The staff could not do enough for us, firstly. You are transported from reception via a golf buggy type vehicle to your room. The driver was so friendly and we arranged with him to pick us up for dinner later on. He arrived on time and chatted to us about the history of the place etc. very pleasant.
As it was my birthday, they left a bottle of fizz in the room with a birthday card. Then the cans of fizzy water in the mini bar were also complementary.
We had a great meal in the restaurant and cocktails in the bar. The food service was a little slow but we had nowhere else to be! We ordered pizza and fries to the room, delicious. Although there were just 4 fries in the serving which we were a little disappointed by.
What was amazing, the following day, we had breakfast included but were leaving to go to the airport and so we enquired as to whether we could get breakfast to go. They could not have been more accommodating, giving us a serving of everything available on the continental breakfast, also providing cutlery and take-away coffees. This blew us away, we were so grateful!
Would definitely love to return again some time.

The Tawny is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. We booked an overnight stay for a special birthday celebration and it was the perfect place for it. We were very sad to checkout, and wished we could have stayed for another night (or two!)
Without exception the staff were all super friendly and helpful. The customer service before and during the visit was exceptional.
The room was gorgeous, every little detail has been thought about.
Excellent food and drink options too.
We will definitely return for another visit. Thank you so much “Team Tawny” and keep doing what you’re doing!

I like walking here. I live close to the location. Beautiful gardens, some woodland and ponds. I can't get enough of this place. Peaceful and therapeutic, I'm so lucky that the gardens are open for anyone.

this review regards the food in the plumicorn restaurant.. Its absolutely devine however there just is NOT enough to enjoy it for long. £35 for beef fillet and it was 3 x 1inch squares. No veg. (maybe a mushroom) £7 extra for the 7 chips. Which were the best chips ever. But again not enough. Chicken £21 and it too consisted of 2 x 2 inch squares. No veg. £7 extra for a small bowl of salad. Again lovely.... again... not enough of it. The dessert. I was so looking forward to this... hazlenut sticky cake. the size of a dice cut in 3. Delicious. but again.. such tiny portions. 2 people. 3 courses. One alcolholic drink each. water. £19 service charge. £170. would I recommend? if you dont mind a huge bill for a delicious but TINY meal YES> but I would have loved to enjoy more food as the quality and taste is one of the best.

Title: The Tawny how things change, a hotel like no other for sure…..
Having worked for 30 years in high end hotels and restaurants. The Tawny was just perfect for a romantic escape. After our first visit, I began to tell all our hotel guests “The Tawny was a must visit” the staff were so friendly and for it was pure escapism.
Our third visit to the Tawny Hotel was meant to be a celebration of my partner's birthday, just two days after my own. We were excited to enjoy the lovely ambiance and peace we remembered from previous stays. However, this trip turned into a nightmare that we never anticipated.
Upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that we were dissuaded not to use the in house buggy service to our accommodation . Instead, we were told we could find our way on our own as it wasn’t too far from reception. This was particularly challenging for me since I was carrying several bags. Unfortunately, while navigating our accommodation , I suffered a serious fall that resulted in my partner flagging a buggy down, we headed straight to hospital.
The aftermath of the incident was incredibly frustrating. The hotel staff showed no concern for my well-being. No one offered assistance or even inquired about my condition after the fall. When I requested an accident report was to be complete before we left the premises, I was met with indifference; they didn’t even have the necessary forms available.
The insurance company associated with the hotel was equally unhelpful. They issued us with their report into my accident. Well they don’t even know where the accident happened. Instead of taking responsibility, they seemed more interested in brushing the whole situation under the rug. In fact, after we attempted to escalate our concerns to one of the hotel owners William Moncrieff. We were met with threats from their insurance company, which only added to our distress.
Eight months in and I am recovering from major ankle surgery, the toll this incident has taken on my life has been immense. I have been unable to work for eight months, even take my children to school. This has not only affected my physical & mental health but has also caused significant financial strain.
What was supposed to be a joyful, romantic escape has turned into a traumatic experience that we will not soon forget. It is disheartening to see a hotel that has won “Boutique hotel of the year 2024” behave in such an unprofessional and uncaring manner, with complete lack towards duty of care for its guests. With my hospitality background, every action and word that wasn’t taken and spoken by The Tawny has totally floored me. We most certainly will never return and we were contemplating holding our wedding ceremony there.
I cannot recommend the Tawny Hotel based on this experience, and I sincerely hope they take a hard look at their guest safety protocols and customer service moving forward.

We visited the Tawny for a birthday dinner. As it's local we didn't stay over so I can't comment on the hotel. The service in the restaurant was first rate, all the staff we dealt with were friendly, helpful and efficient. We started with the crab and cod dishes accompanied by a glass of Picpoul de Pinet dry white wine. We chose a bottle of Chateau Musar red to complement the main which was Chateaubriand, Plumicorn chips and hispi cabbage. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the wine was delicious. A terrific fine dining experience.

We've just returned from our weekend at The Tawny and cannot recommend this hotel enough. We stayed in one of the Retreat rooms and it was absolutely incredible. Everything has been carefully curated with all details considered. The perfect location for relaxation and time out from our busy lives.

Absolutely incredible stay for my boyfriend’s birthday celebrations - staff were super facilitating and so welcoming, Olivia was an absolute joy and couldn’t do more to help us!
We stayed in a lookout room with an outdoor hot tub which was a dream, rooms were super clean and the hotel staff took great care in ensuring our room was replenished on a daily basis, any needs we had was quickly met.
Grounds were beautiful and there was so much to explore (on foot or bikes which you can hire).
Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

I got engaged here a year ago and didn't share a review. It was absolutely perfect from start to finish. I would absolutely love to go back....it's just so expensive :-( such a special place but a night away does set one back.
Thank you for having us last year and for a fabulous weekend

Excellent hotel and amazing grounds with loads to explore and breath taking scenery.
The room was very clean and had everything you might need, we had to call reception to bring new towels and they were there within 10 mins. We stayed in Oyster Catcher which was a bit of a walk from reception / the restaurant so we used the buggies often and they always came quickly with the staff being so polite and welcoming especially Broden. There was pretty much no photo signal around the grounds but the WiFi was amazing so you are able to stay connected.
My only critique is the food, the hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you are very reliant on the hotel food and in my opinion whilst the quality was good, the options were very limited and for the cost - I don’t feel it was up to the standard (both dinners came up to £100 each - for 2 mains and 2 sides with 1 alcoholic drink and one non alcoholic)

Staff are fantastic. The grounds are amazing and food exceptional. However, we have a dog. The biggest accomodation you can get with a dog is tiny. We had to put our stuff on the coffee machine area and the living space is uncomfortable with caravan style sofas. To watch TV is uncomfortable. Room service is basically a choice of 2 dishes and comes like a takeaway in a box and you have to sit on the floor to eat it. With a dog you can only eat in the bar which again is badly designed for comfort. It is like an airport lounge. You could go on the terrace but it was too cold. There is a partition between the bar and restaurant and one night there was particularly loud party so we couldn't hear ourselves speak. With no option but to stay and eat there as we were not going to sit on the floor and eat out of a box again.

I visited The Tawny Hotel for an anniversary meal with my partner. We did not stay over, only ate at the restaurant. On the way in, the grounds are stunning. The restaurant is equally as nice. All tables are situated, looking out off a glass wall onto the grounds so you have stunning view as you dine. We arrived early, so we sat at the bar for a couple of cocktails prior. To the left of the bar is a games area with a pool table and plenty of quirky little bar games, which I thought was great while we waited for our table. I highly recommend the Blood Orange Mojito and the Raspberry Martini they were so good! When we were seated, it took quite a while for the waitress to ask for our drinks order, then even longer for them to bring the drinks over. This was quite disappointing. They did bring an extra cocktail over to compensate the wait however it was one drink which lead me to believe they had just gotten the drinks order wrong and gave us the mistakenly made cocktail because why would you expect two customers who have been waiting to share one drink. Again, a long wait for the food, I had scallops for my starter, and these were cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef. My main was the steak, and I am well aware that Michelin star restaurants serve small portions, and this suits me. However, my partner looked very dissatisfied, ha. It was an extremely small portion. The sip of sauce served with it was really tasty, and the steak was cooked perfectly also. I did not have a pudding as the pudding selection did not appeal to me. I would have given a 5 star if the service wasn't as bad as it was. I just feel that when you pay a lot of money on your food and drinks, you should receive excellent service.

Attended a wedding here, and wow what a venue. The staff provided impeccable service, the location was absolutely stunning and the food was delicious. The pods we stayed in were cosy however we're very warm during the day and we're very compact. However I would stay again.

I couldn’t recommend The Tawny enough. The grounds and setting of the hotel is immaculate, a huge amount of space to explore and activities to do on/off site. Even though the hotel was full we hardly saw anyone and it felt like we have the forest to ourselves. The staff and customer service were some of the best I’ve experienced, we travelling with our 2 children, (2,11) and the flexibility showed to us during our stay was second to none. This isn’t a rigid hotel, with rules and ways to do things, we found it to be very accommodating (our 2 year old being quite particular!!) and relaxed. We stayed for one night and had a really enjoyable stay, in a friendly, chilled out environment that was very good quality from the food, surroundings, our room and the small touches like complimentary tea/coffee in reception to complimentary mini bar in the room. Really smart touches that just make a huge difference. We will definitely visit again! Great to see something like this in the North!

Awesome place!
Set in beautiful countryside surroundings, it has the unusual twist of being series of a cabins, boathouses and shepherds huts rather than a traditional hotel. Central to the location though, there’s the traditional restaurant and pool etc that you’d expect.
I stayed in one of the Shepherds Huts which, while small by definition, have all you need inside and also have a large, private outdoor decking area with loungers and a bath that has a jacuzzi type bubble feature.
It’s great just chilling in a hot bath with a glass of wine in the middle of a forest!
The food is excellent with a good selection of wines and beers. It’s fine dining so the portions are small, but as is often the case with such food, it’s surprisingly filling.
You can also hire a bike, for free, to help you explore. Which leads me to my only criticism; the bike I hired needed the gears adjusting, so I was unable to get it into the easier gears going up hill. I needed the exercise though!
